Johannah Elizabeth Young, 89, of Beloit, Wisconsin, passed away at her home in Beloit, WI, on August 14, 2017. She was born in Beardstown, Illinois, on August 26, 1927, the oldest daughter of Earl G. and Gertrude E. (Brady) Helley.
Johannah’s family moved to Rochelle, Illinois, in her senior year of high school from which she graduated Rochelle High School. She was introduced to her husband, William G Young III, during her tenure as a society writer for the local Rochelle News. They were married in Rochelle on June 27, 1948.
She loved the Lord and was strong in her faith. She excelled at making things, whether it was a pencil drawing, scrapbooking, sewing, creating family plays, designing and furnishing dollhouses, gardening. She truly had the gift of a creative mind, and her imagination was boundless. She took delight interacting and played make-believe with her grandchildren and seeing the awe and wonder in their eyes. She also enjoyed family and friends, sharing fellowships throughout the year and hosting memorable gatherings at her home.
She is survived by her two sisters Meriel Bennett (Rockford, IL) and Dorothy Olleig (Colorado Springs, CO) and her children Katharine (Richard) Hulburt, Richard Young, and Nancy (Brian) Holmes. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren Angela Arnold, Erica (Kevin) Moore, Barbara Aubain, Derick (Nicolette) Young, and Cynthia (Mark) Edwards and 12 great-grandchildren who loved her very much.
Following Jo’s wishes, no public services will be held. The family will honor her memory in the Spring of 2018 with a celebration of life. Rosman, Uehling, Kinzer Funeral home of Beloit is assisting the family.
